Looking after linen and cotton
Almost everything we sell is machine washable and gets better with washing. A few things make that go faster.
Linen
Warm or cold machine wash on a normal cycle. Skip the fabric softener — it coats the fibre and stops linen softening naturally. Tumble dry low and take it out slightly damp; the creases fall out as it finishes drying.
Waffle and Turkish cotton
Wash warm before first use to open the weave and bring up absorbency. Towels lose absorbency to softener and dryer sheets more than anything else, so leave both out.
Percale
Cool or warm wash, tumble dry low. Percale presses beautifully if you want it crisp, and it is perfectly good straight from the dryer if you do not.
Wool and merino
Air rather than wash where you can. When it needs more, cool hand wash or a wool cycle, and dry flat away from direct heat.
Storage
Store clean and dry, folded rather than compressed, somewhere that breathes. Sealed plastic traps moisture and marks natural fibre over time.
